Sam X Sam was founded shortly after the Supreme Court decision for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was released - aka: the overturning of Roe V. Wade. As various states all over the country began to actively strip women of their right to bodily autonomy and the ability to obtain a safe, legal abortion, two A&R interns decided they should take a stand the only way they could - through the power of live music.
Over the span of just five weeks, Samantha Berger and Samantha Heller (Sam and Sam) pooled together all of their resources, called every venue, artist, DJ, and potential sponsor they could think of and put together the first-ever Music For Movement benefit concert in support of Planned Parenthood. Despite the limited orchestration time, Music For Movement sold out all 300 tickets available plus the 50 guest reserve spots days in advance. They curated an all-star lineup including Morgen, Abby Sage, Emei, GiGi, and Lexi Jayde. And, most importantly Sam X Sam was able to raise $7000 for planned parenthood through ticket sales, merch sales, and individual donations.
As of March 7th, 2023, Sam X Sam is an incorporated non-profit in the state of California. They just threw their second Music For Movement benefit concert and showcase at Winston House on April 2nd - raising another $5K for Planned Parenthood. Furthermore, Sam X Sam is looking to expand into more educational and music creation spaces by hosting songwriting camps, panels, and workshops to help provide opportunity and empower women and gender non-conforming members of the music community.
